Microsoft Tries Too Hard…

This isn’t a rant about how Apple is better than Microsoft, nor is it about Windows being a horrible OS – I love Windows 7 and 8. It’s also not a rant about how microsoft-logothe Zune sucks and the iPod is the only real MP3 player, though I’m not sure what’s been going on with the Zune lately, or if it even exists anymore, but I digress.

The Xbox is great too – Microsoft makes some great stuff.

The thing that really grinds my gears is the way the company presents itself.

Unsalted potato chips. Plain pretzels. Lukewarm water, unsweetened tea, black coffee – these are the things that Microsoft is, deep down. Just average. Successful, but nothing special.

But when the company goes out on an advertising campaign laced with dubstep and explosions and rock’n'roll, it bothers me a little bit. I know: Windows is targeted at the complete end user - but that doesn’t mean its customers are complete idiots who pounce on everything that reminds them of the Transformers series.

Ridiculous Dubstep/Rock IE 9 ad:

Worst part is, the above video was the whole reason I decided to make this post. But after sifting through YouTube in search of an explosion and bright color-filled Powerpoint ad or something like that, I came across this abomination:

MICROSOFT HUH? SO IT’S… PRETTY-EASY-TO-USE?

I’m fine with the Internet Explorer ad now.

I’m not even sure that I feel the same way about all of its over-the-top ads anymore either; I’m fine with an explosion packed, lazer shooting dinosaur and cheesy electronic music filled commercial – just so long as I never have to hear anyone sing about Songsmith or glow in the dark towels ever again. Sheesh.
